EDA takes over satcom provision for EU military missions

The European Defence Agency (EDA) is now supplying commercial satellite communications (satcom) services to the European Union’s military training mission in Somalia (EUTM Somalia), the agency announced on 13 October.

Replacing a local provider in Uganda, the EDA said its provision of satcom services to the mission includes the rental and installation of a C-band remote terminal at Mogadishu International Airport, a high data-transmission satellite link to Europe, and 24/7 technical support and on-site servicing.

The agency will also take over satcom provision to the other two EU missions: European Union Naval Force Somalia (Operation ‘Atalanta’) and EUTM Mali in the coming months.
