IGAD condemns terror attack in Somalia
It is with profound sorrow that the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) learnt of the Al Shabab terror group attack on the Al Jazeera Hotel in Mogadishu on Sunday where several innocent people lost their lives and many injured. In a statement issued on Monday, IGAD offers its heartfelt condolences to the families of those who perished in this cruel act of terror and to the government and the people of Somalia. IGAD also wishes speedy recovery to those who were injured.
The attack comes at a time when the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Somalia and those of the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) have cornered the Al Shabab in Operation Jubba Corridor.
“No matter how atrocious the Al Shabab terror group grows, the heroic people of Somalia and the government will continue to enjoy support from IGAD and the international community in their quest for a sovereign, peacefully, and prosperous Somalia. IGAD reiterates once again that it will always stand in solidarity with the people and Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia.” the statement said.
