Millions of Kenyan pupils have returned to school after teachers suspended their five-week strike over pay.

The unions say they are complying with a court decision, which gave the two sides 90 days to resolve the dispute.

The row is over a court-ordered pay rise of at least 50%, which the government is challenging, saying it is unaffordable.

The strike had led to the government closing all public schools.

The more than one million pupils who are set to sit public exams this month had been allowed to go to school, but no other teaching was going on.

Private schools were also told to shut but they challenged the order and were allowed to continue teaching.
