Mungaab seeks Doha’s help in reviving Mogadishu
DOHA, QATAR, NOVEMBER 13th (Somali Agenda)– Mayor of Mogadishu Hassan Mohamed Hussein has arrived in the Qatari capital on the invitation of his counterpart in Doha Mohamed Ahmed Said. The mayor was received at the airport by senior officials of Doha’s city council and its mayor.
Somalia and Qatar enjoy close and cordial relations which has flourished under the administration of current Somali President Hassan sheikh Mohamud. Qatar is currently one of the biggest donors to Somalia’s fledging government along with Turkey and other Gulf countries. Mayor Mohamed Hassan Hussein’s visit is expected to cement these ties.
Mayor Hassan Mohamed Hussein invited Doha’s government to invest and contribute to the reconstruction and development of Somalia’s capital city. During his visit, multiple agreements between the two cities were signed with Doha and Mogadishu being designated sister cities.
The Qataris pledged to initiate construction projects in Mogadishu and revive the city’s emergency services.
During his visit, the mayor is scheduled to meet with senior officials of Qatar’s interior and foreign ministries.
