Opposition to the recently signed Garowe Agreement Grows
MOGADISHU, SOMALIA, November 4th, 2014 (Somali Agenda)- Somalia Agenda has received a copy of the final communique of the “Declaration of Opposition to the current proposed configuration of Somali Federal States”.
This document represents the united voice of one of of the most influential communities in Galgaduud and Mudug region and is prepared for the awareness of the International community and all entities that have a right and duty to comment on social and political developments in Somalia. It is the intent of this document to “strike a blow against those who conspire to affront the dignity and pride of the Somali people. It is also intended to exhort the friends of Somalia not to be duped into supporting accommodations that are not in the long term strategic interests of the peoples of Somalia.”
The document comes as controversies surrounding the recent Garowe agreement between Somalia’s Federal Government and Puntland draws outrages from multiple sections of the Somali populace. This document signed by many leading parliamentarians, former ministers, members of the business community and traditional clan leaders is one of the most strongly worded opposition to the recently announced Garowe Agreement yet.
